Democrats in the Florida Senate voted unanimously Wednesday to name Chris Smith of Fort Lauderdale their next leader. Smith will take the reins from current Senate Minority Leader Nan Rich of Sunrise after the 2012 elections.
Sen. Don Gaetz and Sen. John Thrasher helped worked out a deal between the
two medical groups as part of an overall effort to also put in place limits
against doctors.
The draft plan calls for exploring options to slow the population growth in
some areas that include the use of "hunting and habitat modification." Hunting
supporter Mickey Larkins said, "You have control these bear populations. They
are getting away from you."
Florida will gain $8.1 million in revenue for education next year under
legislation passed by the House on Thursday that allows state Lottery vending
machines to expand the type of games they sell.
The Florida Housing Finance Corp., which provides affordable housing for
low-income residents and was privatized by the Legislature in 1998, would be
pulled back into state control under the current Senate
budget.
